Castellanza, 05 June 2018 – Tenova, a company of the Techint Group specialized in innovative solutions for the metals and mining industries, has been contracted by Shandong Laigang Yongfeng Steel Corp., a subsidiary of Yongfeng Group Ltd, to supply two Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) and Consteel® Evolution plants equipped with Consteerrer™ technology for the customer’s melt shop plant in Dezhou City, Shandong Province, China.

Environmental regulations recently introduced in China aimed to reduce pollution and CO2 emissions have motivated Chinese steelmakers to use a different manufacturing approach, with some converting their steel shops plants to EAF technology, increasing the share of electrical steelmaking in comparison to Blast Furnace (BF) or Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF).

Tenova’s EAF Consteel® Evolution fulfills this need thanks to its operational reliability as well as advantages such as savings in electrical consumption, improved productivity, high-quality steel, and greater environmental protection and workplace safety.

In addition to Consteel®, the project for Shandong Laigang Yongfeng introduces the new Consteerrer™ technology. This solution was developed by Tenova and ABB – a pioneering technology leader that works closely with utilities, industry, transportation and infrastructure customers to write the future of industrial digitalization and realize value.

Thanks to Consteerrer™ technology, the production process is characterized by lower operating costs, more reliable and safer operations, higher steel quality and more precise logistics.

Consteerrer™ enhances the Consteel Evolution process with ABB’s ArcSave® non-contact electromagnetic stirring of the furnace’s liquid bath, and can be customized to match the needs of different EAF process steps.

Thanks to the co-operation with ABB, Tenova offers its customers a complete technological solution able to bring considerable advantages including reduced furnace operating costs, limited energy and electrode consumption, and faster and homogenous scrap melting.
