AC and DC EAF

A modern EAF is a concentrate of technology combining knowledge from different fields, Tenova offers the market some of the most advanced solutions for EAFs leveraging on a holistic approach to the steelmaking process.

Complete furnace packages are supplied providing equipment for all the charging mix alternatives including DRI, HBI, and hot metal. Tenova can supply AC as well as DC-powered EAFs.

Tradition, experience and a solid steelmaking background – backed by the heritage of an historical brand like Tagliaferri, associated with EAF design and manufacture since the earliest days of electrometallurgy – set Tenova as a global benchmark supplier in the industry.

The engineering and supply of EAF include the latest solution for:

Bottom stirring systems; Systems for uninterrupted foamy slag monitoring and slag composition adjustment; Custom made slag formers and ferroalloys addition systems; Automatic manipulators for sampling and temperature measurement.

Tenova also provides a modern and reliable concept for power conductive arms. The utilization of the bimetallic sheet (steel+copper) combines the high strength of the system with the necessary lightness.

The electrode clamps are built in forged copper that allows high pressure contact with low resistance.

      The Tenova Melt Shops Business Unit successfully started up a new Melt shop. Tenova supplied the German steelmaker TSW with a melt shop including an EAF featuring the Consteel® system, a Ladle Furnace (LF) and a Tenova Vacuum Degassing Treatment to complete its quality steel production line.

      The Trier plant can reach a production capacity of more than 29 heats per day, for a total of 560.000 tons of steel a year. The new Consteel® EAF with KT™ injection system permits to increase the productivity by more than 30% with the existing transformer while decreasing the consumptions considerably.

      Moreover a new innovative fume quenching system has been designed by Tenova for TSW plant in order to low the emissions further on: a step ahead to satisfy the "emission zero" plant's target. The new Ladle Furnace and Vacuum Degassing unit allow the production of a wide range of quality steel grades.
